Meet the Pastor
Greetings, friends! What a joy it is to be the pastor here at Calvin Presbyterian Church!
I began as the pastor here in February of 2015. Prior to my move up to Rhode Island, I was a lifelong resident (born and raised!) of Richmond, VA. I began my college career at Virginia Tech (go Hokies!), and then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University (go Rams!), where I graduated in 2000 with a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.A. in Religious Studies.
During those college years, I was involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (VA Tech), and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (VCU), and I spent my summers working at Camp Hanover, a wonderful Christian camp in Mechanicsville, VA. It was during this time that I began to sense that God may be calling me to some sort of ministry.
After college, I spent a few years working in a small outdoor retail shop and a boys’ home. Then, in 2004, I accepted a position as the Director of Youth Ministries at Fairfield Presbyterian Church in Mechanicsville, VA. It was during those six years at Fairfield that I finally began to listen to God’s call for me to enter seminary. I received my M.Div. from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA in May, 2013. After spending a little over a year as a part-time supply preacher for Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Prospect, VA, God called me and my family here to Calvin Presbyterian, where I began as the pastor in February, 2015.
My wife Rachel and I were married in 2000, and we welcomed our son Ezra into the world in 2006.
I enjoy wrestling with issues of faith and joining with others in doing the same, playing and watching soccer, backpacking and camping, and reading. Rachel is a very talented artist, and I enjoy being her number one fan. Ezra loves karate, playing with Lego, and (I am very proud to say) he is as big a fan of Star Wars as his dad. Our family also includes two cats - Zuzu and Albus - who graciously allow us to live with them.
We are excited that God has called us to Calvin Presbyterian Church, to join in proclaiming the boundless and amazing saving and redemptive love of God in Jesus Christ. We cannot wait to see the wondrous things the Lord has in store as we continue to proclaim the Gospel together!
Grace and Peace,
