Meet our Pastor
Rev. Kevin White
,
Pastor Kevin has served as the pastor of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Cumberland, RI since 2015. He also currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Presbytery of Southern New England Anti-Racism and Equity Team, as well as the part-time Protestant Chaplain with the Campus Ministry department at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (2000), and a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary (2013). Pastor Kevin loves preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and especially the intersection of all three; and is continually amazed that he has the honor and privilege to walk with so many through the ups and downs, questions and wrestlings of life. He loves the work of teasing out the implications of our faith in how we live in community - and in communities - and at the end of the day, he hangs his hat on the fact that in all things, somehow and someway, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ changes everything as we trust in - and continually turn toward - the nearness of the present and coming Kingdom of God. Prior to ordained ministry, Pastor Kevin has worked in the specialty outdoor retail industry, in non-ordained youth ministry, and as a group worker in a residential boys’ home. Pastor Kevin is a self-avowed Star Wars geek, and has been known to make a pun or two. He loves soccer (he practices the spiritual discipline of humility by being a fan of Everton FC), and would love to grab a cup of coffee and discuss the bible, theology, philosophy, culture, stories, and pretty much anything that might relate to how we live out our lives, and our life together, as people who proclaim Christ is risen! and Jesus is Lord! He enjoys being the number one fan of his wife, Rachel - a profoundly talented abstract artist - and they are the proud parents of their son, Ezra, with whom he enjoys riding bikes, geeking out on Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, playing tabletop and card games, and (when his knees allow it) practicing karate. Pastor Kevin would much rather brag about Rachel and Ezra than write a bio about himself. They share their home with two cats, Albus and Jovi. Pastor Kevin is no longer the tallest in his house. |
Pastor Kevin's Office/Drop-In Hours*
Fridays are Pastor Kevin's sabbath days. *Please note that while Pastor Kevin tries to be available at the church during these times and keep them free from other commitments, sometimes pastoral emergencies and other needs come up and he is unavailable during these posted times. He is grateful for your understanding. Pastor Kevin is also happy to meet by appointment in places other than the church. |
