Meet Kathy Cooper
While Pastor Kevin is on Sabbatical (June 12-September 12), Kathy will be our part-time "sabbatical pastor." Kathy is both an ordained Ruling Elder and a Candidate for Ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA)
Kathy Cooper (BA, Yale ’88; MDiv, Regent College, ’08) loves helping people come alive to Jesus through Scripture, whether leading in-depth Bible study discussions, teaching people how to reflect theologically about their work, or listening for God’s presence in the sharing of life stories. Kathy has worked in campus ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for 34 years (many of these years at Brown University), and currently serves as the Northeast Regional Director for Graduate & Faculty Ministries.
Kathy and her husband Keith have 3 daughters in their 20’s and a new son-in-law: Jamie (married to Yonas), Julia, and Dylan. They share a 2-family house with Keith’s sister in Providence, where they’ve lived for 27 years. Kathy enjoys gardening, cooking, reading (mostly fiction), and good conversation. Over the years, it’s been a joy to get to know refugees in RI through the non-profit Keith directs, Beautiful Day. Kathy and her family are grateful to be a part of Providence Presbyterian Church, where she has served as an elder for the last 4 years (and co-led the Worship and Nurture Committees). In years past, she co-led a series of House Groups for the church and currently facilitates the PPC Racial Justice Book Group (on zoom). Kathy has slowly worked through the ordination requirements for the PCUSA and is currently “Certified Ready to Receive a Call.” Kathy is grateful for the opportunity to serve as the “sabbatical pastor” this summer while Pastor Kevin is on sabbatical, and she’s really looking forward to getting to know the Calvin church community! |
